Director of EHS

Atlas Roof & Wall Insulation – a Division of Atlas Roofing Corporation – specializes in the manufacture of quality engineered polyiso insulation, specialty products, and accessories. Atlas Roof Insulation & Wall Insulation products lead the industry in polyiso insulation boards and facer technology and performance in commercial and residential buildings. Atlas Roof & Wall Insulation is seeking a Health Safety and Environmental Director for the Division of polyiso foam manufacturing facility. The Environmental, Health & Safety Director is responsible for leading the division's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs while ensuring the timely procurement of materials, supplies, and services required to support the division's operations. This position is responsible for implementing and managing EHS policies and programs and overseeing EHS-related activities across the RWI division. The Director promotes a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance while partnering with Operations, Human Resources, and other functional leaders to support business objectives. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include Travel Requirements) Review and update division-level EHS policies on a routine basis, ensuring compliance with overall Atlas standards. Develop improved safety educational materials, tailoring to the unique processes within the RWI division. Analyze RWI injuries, looking for common themes and categorizing by activity, type of injury, etc. Based on the analysis, develop targeted programs to reduce future injuries. Lead the EHS functional team within the division, holding routine calls to enhance communication and networking on best practices. Execute EHS skills development for the EHS leaders within the RWI plants. Benchmark with EHS counterparts within Atlas to support continuous improvement in EHS practices. Review incidents from other divisions, and ensure applicable learnings are implemented in the RWI sites. Review incident investigations for all OSHA recordable incidents, and advise on preventive actions. Ensure implementation of identified actions, including expanding relevant actions at all RWI plants. Communicate with Plant Managers, other Operations management, and HR regarding EHS issues. Champion the Atlas Zero Harm program for the division, reinforcing the 10 golden rules continuously, through safety meeting materials, audits, promotional materials, and safety communications. The SafeStart process is used in RWI to manage human factors to improve safety performance. Serve as the internal expert on SafeStart. Reinforce the states, errors, and critical error reduction techniques in all safety interactions. Taking advantage of available SafeStart resources, ensure SafeStart practices are refreshed to stay relevant for driving improvements in safety behaviors. Manage and investigate all workers comp claims, and coordinate with appropriate Atlas resources. Remain current on all OSHA regulations and ensure they are being followed. Participate in planned OSHA audits, and lead the preparation of responses for any OSHA complaints raised. Conduct general safety audits at all RWI plants, coordinating with external environmental resource for PSM audits. Follow-up with sites to ensure completion of actions to address audit findings. Lead EHS KPI reporting to Atlas for the division. Ensure sites have needed PPE and first aid items. Perform all other duties assigned. Regular consistent physical attendance is required. EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree in a related field preferred. Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with demonstrated experience leading EHS programs across multiple facilities. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Strong commitment to employee safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance. Thorough knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations and general EHS principles and practices. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, workplace hazards, risk assessment, and hazard-control methods. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence employees and leaders at all organizational levels. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and internal systems. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze EHS data, identify trends, and develop effective corrective and preventive actions. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, suppliers, contractors, customers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. Ability to travel between RWI facilities and other locations as required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use their hands to feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must also be able to talk, hear, and smell. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and may occasionally be required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may work near moving mechanical parts and may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, electrical hazards, and other industrial workplace hazards.
