Fleet Maintenance Manager

Position Summary Fleet Maintenance Manager responsible for managing fleet equipment at one or more locations and leading a team of technicians who handle preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet of up to 60 vehicles (diesel and alternative fuel). Additional responsibilities may include maintenance of equipment and machinery at a post‑collection facility(ies) and management of a container shop(s). The Manager directs technicians to ensure all repairs and maintenance on Republic Services’ equipment, including trucks, containers, and other heavy‑duty equipment, are performed in compliance with the company’s safety and maintenance standards and federal and state regulations. The Manager plans and schedules repair work for the team to ensure safe, timely completion and to reduce lost productivity. Principal Responsibilities Provide direction to all levels of technicians, including fleet maintenance supervisors; oversee daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching, counseling, hiring, termination decisions with HR, employee training, performance evaluation, and merit increases. Maintain an ongoing preventive maintenance program for assigned locations; identify trends in road calls and breakdowns; oversee building and facility maintenance; control maintenance costs related to personnel, purchasing, inventory control, and outsourced repairs. Manage outside repair facilities and repairs to ensure work is completed according to safety and compliance procedures; follow up on work completion. Conduct quality control inspections; track issues and resolutions to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory procedures. Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicles; manage: Engine chassis repair and maintenance; Vehicle body control systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems; Heating and air conditioning systems; Welding tools for heavy equipment repair; Administrative matters such as payroll, employee records, maintenance records, Dossier Maintenance Software entries, budget preparation, and departmental goal setting. Travel locally as required. Qualifications Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office. Advanced root‑cause problem solving. Effective and professional communication skills. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to anticipate business needs and plan accordingly to use equipment, employee, and fiscal resources efficiently. High level of analytical skill to develop solutions for a range of issues. Organizational skills. Ability to collaborate and encourage employee engagement. Good financial management and planning skills; understand budgets, tables, and reports; develop realistic plans to use resources efficiently. Automotive Service Excellence certifications: T2 Diesel Engine, T Master Certified, T3 Drive, T4 Brake, T5 Suspension and Steering. High school diploma or GED. Minimum Requirements Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in the transportation industry with thorough knowledge of safe working practices, including OSHA Haz­Com, OSHA Lock‐Out‑Tag‑Out, OSHA Fire Safety, and other federal and state regulations.
