Associate Attorney – Federal Tax Controversy Practice

A boutique tax law firm is seeking a smart, motivated, and highly capable associate attorney to assist with a growing Federal Tax Controversy practice representing individuals, businesses, and tax professionals in serious federal tax matters.

The associate will help manage a significant docket of federal tax controversy cases and work directly on matters involving:

1. IRS audits and administrative appeals, including matters before the United States Tax Court;
2. IRS collection matters involving income tax, payroll tax, and other federal tax liabilities, ranging from modest disputes to multi-million-dollar cases;
3. Defense of federal district court collection actions brought by the Department of Justice, Tax Division;
4. Representation of taxpayers and tax professionals in criminal tax matters; and
5. Other complex problem-solving matters involving the IRS and federal tax issues.

The ideal candidate is a law school graduate who has:

1. Excellent academic credentials, preferably including law review or journal experience;
2. Passed the bar exam in at least one state;
3. Experience with federal tax matters through government service, private practice, clerkship, or other relevant legal work;
4. Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills;
5. A process-oriented approach to managing cases and solving problems; and
6. The ability to work hard, exercise sound judgment, and remain steady when handling challenging client matters.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
