JobDescription BudgetTitle:ChiefofPolice(MP-3,ManagementConfidential) Salary:CommensuratewithExperience ReportingtotheVicePresidentforOperations,theChiefofPoliceprovidesstrategicleadershipandoperationaloversightfortheBinghamtonUniversityPoliceDepartment,includingplanning,organizing,anddirectingtheoperationsofafullyempoweredprofessionalpoliceforceofapproximately60swornandunswornpersonnel.TheChiefisresponsibleforensuringasafe,secure,andwelcomingcampusenvironmentthroughcommunity-orientedpolicing,emergencypreparedness,collaborativepartnerships,andeffectivelawenforcementservices. Thesuccessfulcandidatewillbeavisible,collaborative,andservice-orientedleaderwhoembracescommunitypolicing,valuestransparencyandaccountability,remainscalmanddecisiveduringemergencies,andunderstandstheuniqueroleofuniversitypolicewithinaresidentialresearchuniversity.TheChiefwilldemonstrateacommitmenttoprofessionalexcellence,continuousimprovement,andfosteringstrongpartnershipsacrossthecampusandsurroundingcommunity. TheChiefoverseesalldepartmentalfunctions,includingpatroloperations,criminalinvestigations,crimeprevention,communications,training,emergencymanagement,specialeventsecurity,trafficmanagement,andpublicsafetyoutreach.Thepositionisresponsibleforestablishingdepartmentalpolicies,procedures,andoperationalprioritiesconsistentwithuniversitygoalsandNYSlegalrequirementsandlawenforcementbestpractices. TheChiefservesasakeyadvisortouniversityleadershiponmattersrelatedtopublicsafety,emergencypreparedness,riskmanagement,andlawenforcementoperations. TheChiefworksproactivelywithStudentAffairs,ResidentialLife,CounselingServices,andothercampuspartnerstosupportstudentwell-being,behavioralthreatassessmentprocesses,violencepreventioninitiatives,andcampussafetyeducationprograms.Thepositionalsoprovidesleadershipinplanningfordemonstrations,majorevents,andotheractivitiesrequiringabalancebetweenpublicsafetyandtheUniversity'scommitmenttofreeexpressionandacademicinquiry.
