Registered Nurse Clinical Nurse Lead - Main ED

Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinical Nurse Lead - Main ED Days Job Category: Nursing Schedule: Full time Shift: 1 - Day Shift The Tucson Medical Center Emergency Department is the busiest in Southern Arizona, seeing at least 95,000 patients a year between the adult and pediatric ED. TMC has 54 beds across 4 pods (North, South, East, West) with a staffing ratio of 1:4, flexing based on acuity. The ED follows the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) guidelines and is certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Chest Pain Center, and Gold Plus Achievement Award recipient. All nurses must hold CPR, ACLS, PALS, Vistelar, and NIHSS certification. Why Join Tucson Medical Center? The ED uses the Emergency Severity Index for triage and follows Lean Methodology to foster continuous process improvement. All nurses must maintain CPR, ACLS, PALS, CPI, and NIHSS certification. SUMMARY The clinical nurse leader is responsible for coordinating and evaluating safe, effective, patient-centered care, mentoring staff, and ensuring resources meet patient needs. This role collaborates across departments to coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges, upholds professional standards, and holds team members accountable. Proactively round with team, identify improvement opportunities, and perform real-time corrections. Ensure handoff communication during shifts. Assign and delegate patient care tasks appropriately. Delegate tasks to unlicensed staff per regulations. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and provide recommendations. Assist in monitoring staff performance and report findings. Ensure infection control precautions and procedures. Lead at least one unit-based process improvement initiative. Attend 25% of monthly PCI trainings. Run debriefs after codes or significant events and lead unit SWARM activities. Participate in Joint Commission trace and safety checks. Accountability Accountable for documentation accuracy each shift. Prioritize care and complete tasks during shift. Prepare for oncoming shift with full report and tidied patient care areas. Practice cost-effective behaviors and manage staffing guidelines. Assist team members with direct patient care as needed. Coordinate patient flow for effective care. Perform department tasks assigned by leadership. Round with patients and families to meet needs. Ensure staffing levels meet care needs and use acuity tools. Monitor supplies and maintain par levels. Ensure equipment is used safely. Deliver disciplinary action as guided. Provide real-time service recovery for patient satisfaction. Communication Facilitate communication with all necessary units to coordinate patient care. Check e‑mail for hospital and unit communications each shift. Attend at least 75% of staff meetings and participate. Avoid negative communication or foul language. Communicate with staffing office and other departments for staffing needs. Professionalism Adhere to organizational policies, TMC behavioral standards, and hold staff accountable. Follow professional guidelines and standards of care. Collaborate professionally with other departments. Demonstrate effective communication, conflict resolution, team building, and leadership. Update and uphold standards of practice and be a role model. Participate in WOC rounding and peer interview processes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from a nationally‑accredited nursing program. Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience in an acute care setting required; two (2) years preferred. Licensure or Certification: Current RN licensure in Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications may be required per department. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of critical care techniques, tools, and responses for optimal patient care. Knowledge of rapid response, code, or stroke call procedures. Knowledge of electrophysiology and cardiac cath lab best practices (some positions). Knowledge of surgical specialties and postoperative patient care (some positions). Knowledge of chart abstraction, education, and marketing for chest pain, CHF, and stroke programs (some positions). Skill in evaluating performance and recommending improvements. Skill in developing training materials and educating staff on critical care responses. Skill in using and maintaining computer systems and programs such as NRCPR, PC File and Folder, Word, Excel, e‑mail, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Skill in communicating with critical care staff and physicians. Ability to read, interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence. Ability to listen and interpret instructions for appropriate action. Ability to speak and communicate effectively. Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret various instructions and handle abstract and concrete variables. #J-18808-Ljbffr
