Medical AssistantLocation: Santa Fe Indian Health Center (Primary) with rotation to Santa Clara Health Center, San Felipe Health Clinic, and Cochiti Health Clinic as neededSchedule: Monday–Friday, varied shifts (8-hour or 10-hour)Security Clearance Requirement: Full background and fingerprint clearance prior to startPosition Overview: The Medical Assistant will provide clinical and administrative support across multiple IHS facilities. The role includes direct patient interaction, diagnostic support, vaccination assistance, lab preparation, and supporting clinic operations. Rotations to satellite clinics will occur based on facility needs between Santa Fe and Santa Clara NM.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct patient screening, intake, and vital collectionAssist with venipuncture, specimen collection, documentation, labeling, and preparation for laboratory transferSupport vaccination clinics, medication administration, and infectious disease responseProvide clinical support for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patientsPerform point-of-care testing including strep, flu, urinalysis, glucose, and pregnancy testsCollect and enter patient health information into electronic medical systemsRespond to acute and emergent patient conditions and escalate according to protocolsAnswer and route patient calls, document symptoms, and communicate with nursing teamsMaintain infection control standards, PPE compliance, and facility protocolsSupport isolation and patient identification procedures related to communicable diseaseWear facility-issued identification badge during all duty hoursComplete all documentation required for background investigation and child safety complianceWork Schedule & Tour RequirementsMonday through Friday - Shift options: 8:00–5:00, 8:00–4:30, or 8:00–6:00 (30–60 minute unpaid lunch)40-hour minimum per week, 100% scheduled hour attendance requiredRotational assignments between facilities based on operational needsTravel between clinic sites is not billable and does not count toward duty hoursPlanned absences require advance approval; emergencies require documentationMinimum QualificationsCompletion of a state-accredited Medical Assistant programMinimum of 12 months Medical Assistant experienceCurrent and unrestricted Medical Assistant credential/licenseHigh school diploma or equivalent required; progress toward associate degree preferredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS and PALS preferredImmunization and Health RequirementsProof of immunity or vaccination for MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Pertussis, and seasonal influenzaTB test within the last 12 months, with follow-up documentation if previously positiveMasks required during influenza season if exempt from vaccinationAbility to operate government vehicles if assigned (training provided)Security & Suitability RequirementsFederal fingerprinting and background clearance required prior to independent dutyNo unsupervised interaction with minors permitted until clearance is fully completedFull compliance with federal child protection standardsImmediate removal possible if clearance is not obtained or if adverse findings arise
