Air Conditioning Lab Assistant

Under direct supervision of faculty members, the lab assistant performs routine, standardized air conditioning laboratory work requiring close attention to detailed procedures in the preparation and basic maintenance of air conditioning laboratory equipment, inventory and requisition of supplies, assisting faculty in the supervision of students assigned to laboratories, and other related duties. Employed on an individual academic semester basis. Duties include but are not limited to assisting faculty members with classroom instruction, adherence to safety procedures, and other miscellaneous tasks related to instruction; tutoring or mentoring students; cleaning labs as needed; and obtaining materials needed for classes, including texts and other materials. Selected candidate must be able to work morning, afternoon or evening hours, Monday through Thursday. Location can include Carrollton, LaGrange, Waco or Newnan Georgia. The payment method is based on contact hours, with a rate of $18.00 per contact hour.

Required Education and Experience: Successful completion of courses which are appropriate to the assignment, or directly related experience in Air Conditioning Technology. Valid driver's license. Preferred Education and Experience: A Diploma or Associate degree in Air Conditioning Technology or related field from an accredited institution. Pay: $18.00 per contact hour. All lab positions are part-time, temporary positions offered on a per-semester basis based on the needs of the college. Lab Assistant positions do not include benefits or promises of future full-time employment. Lab Assistant positions do not promise future full-time or adjunct employment.

Safety and Technology: Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the Air Conditioning Technology program. Supports faculty to ensure all equipment is in working order. Ensure students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools. Ensure classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.

Competencies: Skill to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to break larger tasks into manageable, smaller tasks. Decision-making and problem-solving skills. Skills in interpersonal relations and in interacting with the public. Oral and written communication skills.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional classroom and lab environment. This role routinely uses standard office, classroom, and lab equipment and technology.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, talk, or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move classroom/lab equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
