Veterinary Assistant

Alta Vista Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team and help create exceptional experiences for clients and patients during exams and outpatient visits. We are seeking an outgoing veterinary assistant who thrives in client engagement, schedule coordination, and multitasking. In this position, you will play a critical role in supporting efficient hospital operations, creating positive client experiences, and ensuring patients receive compassionate, high-quality care. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and the ability to anticipate the needs of both the veterinary team and clients throughout the patient visit.
In this position, you will take an active role in:
Supporting efficient exam room and outpatient care
Providing safe, gentle patient handling and stress-free restraint during outpatient and procedural care
Preparing patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments
Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces
Schedule and compensation:
Compensation: $18 - $20 per hour, for each hour worked
This is a full-time position, with a 4/10 schedule and availability needed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and possibly half days on Saturdays.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:
2+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant role
Proficiency in the following skills: Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs, cats, and pocket pets of varying sizes and temperaments
Client communication and education
Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs
Administer oral medications
