Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: Performs the primary function of a professional dietitian in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating the nutritional care provided to high risk patients. The dietitian is responsible for interacting with medical staff, nursing staff, ancillary staff and Nutrition Services Department regarding creation of diet plans, nutritional policies, practices, procedures, patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. Evaluates patient health status with consideration to lab results, medication regimen, potential food and drug interaction, gastrointestinal status, cognitive issues, physical status, allergies, and food preferences. Designs nutrition programs to improve or maintain the health of patients through attention to micro- and macronutrients, specialized diets, supplements, restrictions, and enteral/parenteral nutrition content. Contributes to interdisciplinary plan of care and track patient progress to goals based on health metrics and existing habits. Provides direct supervision to dietary students. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. May be occasions when it will be necessary to work weekends and holidays. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Familiar with basic nutritional assessments for all age groups. 2. Bilingual (English-Spanish) helpful. 3. Varied experience in dietetics is preferred. 4. Experience with computer is desirable. 5. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer. EDUCATION / LICENSURE: 1. Master's degree preferred. 2. Must be registered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. 3. Licensed by the State of Texas or receive license within 6 months of becoming registered.
