JOB SUMMARY

The HR Generalist / Talent Acquisition role combines full-cycle recruiting with day-to-day Human Resources generalist support as Plain Dealing Lumber continues to build out its HR function. This position is responsible for sourcing, attracting, and hiring hourly, skilled trade, and salaried talent for the mill, while also serving as a front-line resource for employees on onboarding, leave administration, employee relations, recordkeeping, and policy questions. Reporting to the HR Director, this role plays a key part in strengthening PDL's employer brand in the local labor market and ensuring consistent, compliant HR practices as the department grows.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Talent Acquisition

• Manage full-cycle recruitment for hourly, skilled trade, and salaried positions, from requisition intake through offer, in partnership with hiring managers.

• Source candidates through job boards, community and technical college partnerships, job fairs, employee referrals, and social media.

• Screen resumes and applications, conduct phone and in-person interviews, and coordinate hiring manager interviews and scorecards.

• Extend and negotiate offers, and coordinate background checks, drug screens, and other pre-employment requirements.

• Maintain accurate and compliant applicant tracking and recruiting records, including EEO data collection.

• Build and maintain candidate pipelines for hard-to-fill and mill-critical positions.

• Represent PDL at job fairs, career events, and community outreach activities to strengthen employer brand and community relationships.

• Partner with the HR Director on employer branding content, including LinkedIn posts, job fair materials, and recruiting collateral.

HR Generalist Support

• Facilitate new hire onboarding and orientation, ensuring a consistent and welcoming first-day/first-week experience.

• Serve as a first point of contact for employee relations questions and concerns, escalating to the HR Director as appropriate.

• Administer leave programs, including FMLA and personal leave, tracking eligibility, documentation, and return-to-work status.

• Process unemployment claims and respond to employment/wage verification requests.

• Maintain accurate personnel files and HRIS records in compliance with recordkeeping requirements.

• Support consistent administration and application of PDL policies, including the HR SOP Binder.

• Assist with administration of the performance evaluation cycle, including tracking completion and supporting managers with the process.

• Coordinate logistics for required training, including safety training, supervisor sensitivity training, and harassment prevention training.

• Support documentation of disciplinary actions and workplace investigations under the guidance of the HR Director.

• Conduct exit interviews and track turnover data and trends.

• Assist with compensation administration tasks, such as processing compensation review forms and pay change requests, as needed.

• Perform other HR duties and special projects assigned by the HR Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred.

• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in HR support, generalist work, and/or recruiting/staffing.

• Working knowledge of core employment law fundamentals (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII).

• Experience using applicant tracking systems (ATS) and HRIS platforms, or ability to learn quickly.

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive employee information.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• SHRM-CP or PHR certification, or active candidacy.

• Experience recruiting for skilled trades, manufacturing, or industrial/mill environments.

• Experience with Proliant or a comparable HRIS/payroll platform.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily office-based with regular use of a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment. Regular walking through mill production areas is required to support onboarding, employee relations matters, and investigations; the incumbent must follow all facility safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when in production areas. Occasional local travel is required for job fairs, community events, and college recruiting visits. As a non-exempt position, hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek are eligible for overtime in accordance with the FLSA and PDL policy.
