Enterprise Architect (United States)

Our client, a nonprofit higher education institution, is expanding beyond traditional degree programs into lifelong learning, professional education, workforce development, consulting, and industry partnerships.

To support that growth, the technology organization is modernizing its environment. The first priority is replacing an outdated, unsupported fundraising CRM and rationalizing siloed systems. This role will define the target architecture and help select implementation partners before any build begins.

You will join an established, infrastructure-focused technology team and report to the technology leader driving the modernization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design the future-state enterprise architecture, including the data foundation, integration platform, identity management approach, and CRM strategy
• Lead the strategy to replace the legacy fundraising CRM, and rationalize siloed systems across the institution
• Evaluate Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, and other enterprise CRM platforms with a neutral, evidence-based recommendation
• Assess data platform options (AWS, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and others) and define how data flows, is stored, and supports analytics and decision-making
• Design end-to-end solutions using APIs and modern composable architecture patterns
• Define the identity management and customer data platform (CDP) approach
• Make pragmatic architecture and platform decisions ahead of implementation vendor selection
• Evaluate and help select implementation partners, including a specialized higher education advancement vendor
• Provide independent technical oversight of vendors: checks and balances, design reviews, and solution validation
• Mentor the internal team and help build long-term senior engineering capability, including supporting a future Director of Engineering

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years in enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, or solutions engineering, with recent hands-on work in modern technology environments
• Deep experience with multiple data architectures and integration architectures
• Proven end-to-end solution design using APIs, integration platforms, and composable architecture
• Strong understanding of data flows between systems, data storage, analytics, and data-driven decision-making
• Experience with identity management and customer data platforms
• Enterprise CRM experience sufficient to compare Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics objectively
• Track record evaluating vendors and providing independent technical oversight of implementation partners
• Vendor-neutral mindset: recommends the right fit, not a preferred platform
• Seniority and communication skills to mentor engineers and advise technology leadership

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in higher education, nonprofit, fundraising, or advancement systems
• Exposure to student information systems (SIS) and higher education ERP platforms
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, AWS data services, or Databricks
• Experience leading a legacy CRM replacement from platform selection through vendor handoff
