Transportation Manager - Public Safety

This position manages the NSU fleet, ensuring that NSU employees and students travel needs are safely and reliably met and are in state and federal compliance.

Major duties include developing and maintaining a viable business model for Motor Pool, supervision of full-time and/or part-time student employees, shift scheduling, recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, training, motivating, coaching, assisting, and mentoring employees, fleet vehicle reservations, routine maintenance, repair, replacement, and cleaning of the fleet, processing employee time cards, managing operational aspects of the Motor Pool department, knowledge of inventory control and department assets, coordinating accounting operations, preparing regular and special State Fleet reports, compiling and processing department fuel mileage reports, reviewing, planning, managing, and implementing approved budgets, reviewing financial reports, directing the procurement of supplies, recommending vehicle purchases for the University Fleet pool, responsible for customer service satisfaction, maintaining and updating customer's driver's license, maintaining pike pass records and pike passes, developing partnerships with outside vendors and entities, web page maintenance and updates, establishing quality transportation services.

Supervisory controls include assigning work in somewhat general terms with some judgment needed, work performed independently, knowledge and understanding of the work required with little to no supervision, supervisor available to help as needed.

Guidelines include department and university policies and procedures, laws, building codes, rules and regulations, NSU Motor Pool Rules and Regulations, Oklahoma State Statute title 47 Oklahoma State title 51 and state insurance laws.

Complexity/scope of work consists of related administrative and management duties, frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position, responsibilities that are unrelated overlap at times, purpose of this position is to manage assigned office operations, success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, students, faculty, and university staff across campus and on the Broken Arrow and Muskogee campuses as well, contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, resolve problems, defend or negotiate matters.

Physical demands/work environment include sitting at a desk or intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping, frequently lifting light objects, using tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishing between shades of color and utilizing their sense of smell, performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather and exposed to dust, dirt, grease machinery with moving parts and irritating chemicals, this position may require call out duties.

Supervisory and management responsibility includes direct supervision over full and/or the part-time motor pool employees and student workers.

Minimum qualifications include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of a Baccalaureate degree, a minimum of 4 years of comparable experience, valid Oklahoma driver's license and a clear driving record, must pass background investigation.

Annual salary $43,896.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time. Anticipated hire date: 10/1/2026. Applications will be accepted until: 9/23/2026.
