The teacher supports student development in physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy decision-making, and lifelong wellness. The teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe and respectful instructional environment, assessing student progress, communicating with families, supporting schoolwide goals, and contributing to the academic, wellness, and extracurricular mission of Peach Springs Unified School District #8. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and implements physical education curriculum and instruction consistent with District goals, applicable Arizona standards, and school improvement priorities.
- Creates and maintains a safe, respectful, culturally responsive, and student-centered learning environment in classrooms, gymnasiums, athletic fields, fitness areas, and other instructional settings.
- Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments that provide sequential learning experiences and maximize instructional time.
- Teaches skills and concepts related to physical fitness, movement, individual and team sports, strength and conditioning, wellness, personal responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Models, teaches, and reinforces appropriate safety procedures, rules, routines, and expectations for physical activity, equipment use, and student participation.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English learners, gifted students, and students requiring additional academic or behavioral support.
- Conducts ongoing formative and summative assessment of student learning and physical education outcomes, analyzes student progress, and adjusts instruction to support student growth and achievement.
- Uses instructional technology, learning management systems, data systems, and software applications as needed to support instruction, communication, assessment, and record keeping.
- Promotes positive student engagement, wellness, leadership, responsible decision-making, and a healthy school culture.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of grades, attendance, student progress, parent communication, inventory, equipment use, and other required documentation in accordance with District procedures and applicable law.
- Communicates regularly and professionally with students, parents/guardians, staff, and administrators regarding student progress, classroom expectations, participation, and instructional support.
- Establishes and reinforces classroom and activity expectations so that student conduct aligns with school standards, District policies, and a productive learning environment.
- Collaborates with professional staff members, including grade-level, content-area, special education, intervention, athletic, and administrative teams, to support student learning and schoolwide goals.
- Participates in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, committees, professional development, and other school or District activities as assigned.
- Selects, requests, organizes, and maintains appropriate instructional materials, technology, athletic equipment, physical education equipment, supplies, and inventory records as required.
- Supports student activities, clubs, athletics, and community engagement opportunities as assigned or as consistent with the needs of the District.
- Maintains professional knowledge of current instructional practices, physical education standards, student wellness practices, assessment practices, and developments in the educational field.
- Complies with District policies, school procedures, confidentiality requirements, mandatory reporting obligations, and all applicable federal and state laws.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, physical education standards, and differentiated instruction based on student learning needs.
- Knowledge of physical fitness, wellness, motor skill development, movement concepts, individual and team sports, safety practices, and student supervision in active settings.
- Knowledge of data information systems, assessment practices, data analysis, and the development of instructional action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, District policies, and school procedures regarding education, students, confidentiality, and safety.
- Ability to use computer network systems, instructional technology, student information systems, and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and manage instruction, equipment, materials, records, and student activity spaces.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents/guardians, staff, administrators, and community members.
- Ability to establish and maintain a safe, structured, positive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance, professional growth, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents, community groups, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Arizona State Certification as a Teacher in Physical Education or other appropriate certificate/endorsement required by the assignment.
- Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- CPR/First Aid, concussion, heat illness, or other safety-related training may be required when connected to assigned duties, athletics, or coaching responsibilities.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, physical education, kinesiology, health, or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment required.
- Master's degree in a related area preferred.
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
- Experience working with Native American students and communities, rural schools, or underserved student populations preferred.
- Coaching, athletic program support, or athletic director experience preferred when applicable to District needs.
- 2025-2026 certificated salary schedule range: $45,000-$62,000.
- Alt. Cert / Emergency Cert: $45,000-$45,500; B.A.: $50,000-$55,000; B.A. + 15 Credits: $52,500-$57,500; B.A. + 30 Credits: $53,500-$58,500.
- B.A. + 45 Credits or Master's: $55,000-$60,000; Ed.D / Ph.D: $57,000-$62,000.
