Job Summary and Qualifications

Provides education, planning and support regarding patient specific plan of care. This person serves as a first point of contact for care at the Heart and Spine hospital which includes but is not limited to education regarding their care and/or procedural services plan. Follows through on patients’ needs through coordination of services during PAT.

•  Perform direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, with emphasis on the in-patient and out-patient Day Surgery service line. 
• Perform pre-op patient calls to drive patient education and overall satisfaction 
• Complete patient pre-operative testing, 
• Point of Care Testing and lab draws as needed for preoperative testing 
• Use therapeutic communication in daily practice 
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic Pre-Operative environment 
• Implement and direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual Day Surgery patients 
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process 
• Provide emotional support of the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding healthcare 
• Delegate tasks to the appropriate caregiver 
• Participate in Day Surgery specific initiatives and process improvement 
• Provide training of PAT nurse responsibilities and processes to new employees, such as patient care assistants, vocational nurses, nurse technicians, RN Residents and/or nurse externs 
• Maintain high quality (age specific) care for patients, as assigned 
• Support the mission, vision and values of the organization 
• Other duties as assigned 

What qualifications you will need:

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
• If hired after 6/1/12, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position 
• Adult Acute care experience at least one-year procedural or care navigation experience preferred 
• Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact license 
• Current AHA or ARC BLS provider 
• Current AHA or ARC ACLS required within one year of hire or transfer
