Behavioral Health Technician

The purpose of the Behavioral Health Technician is to assist in providing a safe environment for individuals. The BHT answers clients' questions and assists in adjusting program routine, reports any changes in the client's physical or mental condition. The BHT is responsible for supervising clients during the program with emphasis on client safety and wellbeing.

Essential Duties:

1. Records inventory log of all personal belongings, valuables and return ticket. Tickets and valuables to be kept in the safe.
2. Completes required lab requisitions per protocol
3. Monitors clients at all times to include specific rounds and logging clients' whereabouts
4. De-escalates AMA and other client problems
5. Participates in all staff meetings as scheduled
6. Ensures garbage is disposed of properly throughout the shifts as needed
7. Monitors group room to ensure cleanliness after each activity
8. Hands off information necessary for next shift technician after each shift. Maintains logbook for the continuity of care. Participates in shift turnover and ensures that the next shift is aware of pertinent information as it relates to clients
9. Attends required staff training
10. Supervises clients completing the Program with emphasis on safety and well-being
11. Reminds clients of program rules and regulations as necessary and reports infractions immediately
12. Provides emotional support for clients while referring them to therapy staff to address clinical issues
13. Completes assigned paperwork in a neat, timely and accurate manner
14. Communicates with other staff as necessary to promote quality client care
15. Participates in maintaining clean, properly supplied and efficient work areas
16. Observes and reports safety and maintenance problems
17. Interacts appropriately with clients, showing respect while maintaining boundaries
18. Maintains a professional demeanor
19. Exercises sound professional judgement and seeks assistance as necessary to effectively manage client behavior to include but not limited to suicidal concerns, issues of trauma
20. Protects privacy of all client information in accordance with facility privacy policies and procedures
21. Transports clients as needed
22. Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• High School Graduate or GED preferred
• Experience working in substance abuse and/or mental health preferred
• Valid state driving license with no major violations in past five (5) years

Work Environment:

This position is required to work in a temperature-controlled environment 80%-90% of the time spent indoors. Potential exposure to violent situations. Potential exposure to airborne/blood-borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials. Standing, walking, bending, stoop/kneel, reaching, pushing.
