Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology night shift position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring a WV or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.

• Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma facility
• Unit is a 36-bed Med/Surg, Post-Op, Oncology, and Telemetry unit
• Patient population includes general med/surg patients, post-op patients (lap chole, lap appy — no post-op ortho), oncology patients with complications (neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections), and occasional 1:1 psych patients
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6
• Heparin is the only drip administered; no cardiac drips
• Telemetry monitoring via Philips monitors; a central monitor tech covers the hospital, but RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
• CPAP and BiPap available on unit; managed by Respiratory Therapy
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holidays worked in rotation with permanent staff
• Floating to other Med/Surg or Tele units may be required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy Biotherapy) certification is a plus
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Experience with chest tubes and PleurX chest tubes is a strong plus
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Additional Information

• Permanent nurses administer chemotherapy; travelers will not be required to administer chemo
• Charge nurse available 24/7; day charge does not take a patient assignment, night charge does
• 3 CNAs on both day and night shifts
• Royal blue scrubs required; no artificial/false nails permitted
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
• All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
