Job code: CVDJP00034530 Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and making workflow recommendations. Schedule & Location Location: Columbia, MD (also float to Baltimore City, Frederick County, and Columbia). Home base will be the location closest to the employee’s home. Schedule: 6 AM to 7 PM Monday–Friday, with one Saturday shift per month. Shift length: 8 hours, starting as early as 6 AM or ending as late as 7 PM depending on the location. Responsibilities Perform blood draws using straight or butterfly needles. Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established procedures and temperature requirements. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify 100% correctness of test requisitions. Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity during transport. Maintain specimen inventory and record maintenance data, including decontamination procedures. Update patient information in the system and answer telephone calls or lab result inquiries. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings. Provide troubleshooting and workflow recommendations as needed. Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification in the state of employment. Minimum of six months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. Pediatric and geriatric experience required. Clean driving record and reliable transportation; mileage expenses paid.
