Genetics Counselor

Prenatal Genetic CounselorThe Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine within the Department of OB/GYN is looking to employ a prenatal genetic counselor to work with families that have an increased risk of having a child with a genetic condition or congenital anomaly. Important duties of the genetic counselor include, but are not limited to: providing risk assessments, patient education, psychosocial counseling, coordination of appropriate genetic testing, providing results, and follow-up counseling and recommendations for patients. Primary indications for prenatal genetic counseling include abnormal genetic screening, prenatal ultrasound findings, and known family history of genetic condition or a congenital anomaly.Implements core GC skills and competencies which include:Assesses family history, completes pedigree, and counsels patients and/or families in cases of abnormal prenatal screening, abnormal ultrasound findings, known family history of genetic disease, and preconception genetic counseling.Offers appropriate genetic testing and coordinates testing. Provides disclosure of test results, the meaning of the results and follow-up counseling.Clear documentation with all elements required for new patient and result disclosure patient appointmentsUtilize EMR as required for Genetic CounselorsMaintains patient databasePresents patients at weekly case conferenceRecognize need for professional growth and takes steps to achieveImplements clinical practice under supervision from GC, MDEducation:Master's Degree in Genetic CounselingANDExperience:New graduate to 3 years of experience. Boarded/licensed experience preferred.Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:Eligible for and then required Board Certification in Genetic Counseling.
