Position Summary

Teamwork Therapies is seeking a California Credentialed Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher to provide school-based special education services in the Benicia, California area.

The Special Education Teacher will provide individualized instruction and case management for students with mild to moderate disabilities. The teacher will work collaboratively with general education teachers, related-service providers, administrators, families, and other members of the IEP team to support students’ academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional needs.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about California special education requirements, IEP development and implementation, differentiated instruction, progress monitoring, and evidence-based instructional strategies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized academic instruction to students with mild to moderate disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Develop, implement, and monitor measurable annual IEP goals based on each student’s identified needs.
  • Serve as case manager for assigned students and maintain accurate special education records.
  • Prepare and conduct annual, triennial, amendment, transition, and other IEP meetings as required.
  • Ensure IEP services, accommodations, modifications, goals, and supports are implemented consistently.
  • Provide instruction in individual, small-group, resource-room, inclusion, and/or specialized classroom settings.
  • Modify and differentiate curriculum, assignments, assessments, and instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support student participation and progress within the general education curriculum.
  • Monitor student academic and functional progress through data collection, curriculum-based measures, observations, assessments, and work samples.
  • Prepare required IEP progress reports and communicate student progress to families and the educational team.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional strategies in reading, writing, mathematics, executive functioning, study skills, and other areas identified in the IEP.
  • Support students with organization, self-advocacy, independence, and transition-related skills as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement classroom behavior supports and positive behavior-management strategies.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with School Psychologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, counselors, behavior specialists, and other related-service providers.
  • Provide guidance and direction to paraprofessionals and instructional assistants working with assigned students.
  • Maintain communication with parents and caregivers regarding student progress, needs, and educational programming.
  • Participate in Student Study Team, multidisciplinary, transition, and other school meetings as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, California Education Code, Section 504 when applicable, and school/district special education procedures.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and comply with FERPA and applicable privacy requirements.
  • Complete all required documentation, reports, service records, and IEP-related responsibilities within established timelines.
  • Participate in professional-development activities and staff meetings as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential – Mild to Moderate Support Needs , or equivalent California Mild/Moderate credential appropriate for the assignment.
  • Appropriate English Learner authorization as required by California credentialing requirements.
  • Knowledge of California special education laws, IDEA, IEP procedures, and educational documentation requirements.
  • Ability to develop measurable IEP goals and deliver specially designed instruction.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Strong classroom-management and behavior-support skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with families, school staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple student cases, deadlines, and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a California public, charter, non-public, or special education school setting.
  • Experience serving students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, mild intellectual disabilities, emotional or behavioral needs, and other mild to moderate support needs.
  • Experience developing and managing IEPs.
  • Experience using special education IEP management systems.
  • Experience with inclusive practices and co-teaching.
  • Experience implementing positive behavioral interventions and supports.
  • Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), and Universal Design for Learning.
  • Experience working with elementary, middle, and/or high-school students.
