Environmental Justice Organizational Defense Intake and Logistics Coordinator

Overview

The Collaborative Clinic for Non-Profit Viability (CCNV) is a multi-university legal clinic administered out of Yale Law School & the Yale Center for Environmental Justice whose mission is to support the organizational legal needs of environmental justice and indigenous environmental organizations. CCNV is seeking an entrepreneurial intake and logistics coordinator to provide administrative and programmatic support to CCNV and its partners at the Howard University School of Law Environmental and Climate Justice Center (the Center at Howard).

This position will work closely with the Center at Howard’s Director and CCNV Supervising Attorneys. This is a part-time position averaging 20 hours of work during business hours (8:00 am - 5:00 pm ET) per week with options for remote or hybrid work. Preference will be given to candidates in Washington DC.

With a special emphasis on providing community support and advocacy, the Center at Howard draws upon student, faculty, and practitioner expertise to serve as a resource for communities facing environmental assaults and challenges.

The Center at Howard is a core partner of CCNV, a collaborative initiative of the Yale Center for Environmental Justice (YCEJ). CCNV is working to safeguard Environmental Justice and Indigenous nonprofits’ organizational viability through challenging times by supporting organizations with their governance, organizational, compliance, or legal issues.

Roles and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

Provide logistics and programmatic support to the Center at Howard’s research, educational, and community support and advocacy programs.

• Assist in outreach to and initial intake of community-based organizations seeking 
• CCNV support
• Support the coordination of the Center’s research teams across Howard University and external partners, working closely with the Center’s Director to manage project timelines, deliverables, and communications.
• Manage scheduling and events for the Center and the Center’s Director – including meetings with Howard faculty, staff, students, and partners.
• Organize educational events and activities.
• Oversee the development and management of the Center’s public-facing communications ( e.g., websites, annual reports, white papers).

Additional Responsibilities

Provide intake and administrative support to CCNV.

• Monitor and manage CCNV’s inbox.
• Create and manage entries in a database that tracks requests for assistance, ensuring accurate and timely entering of information/data. 
• Schedule and manage internal CCNV meetings and meetings between CCNV representatives, community-based organizations, and/or service providers.
• Coordinate with CCNV staff to organize collaborative CCNV meetings, events, and activities.
• Work closely with CCNV Supervising Attorneys on recruitment, hiring, and on-boarding of CCNV fellows and externs.
• Manage and process budgets and expenses for CCNV.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation will be $25/hour and/or commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience interfacing with community-based organizations, providing intake, programmatic and/or administrative support.
• Experience working in academic higher education, non-profit, government, or community service preferred.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Must work well with professional/graduate students and the general public.
• MS Outlook/Word/Excel, Slack, and Zoom proficiency required.
