Campus Safety Assistant

This is an open recruitment to establish an eligibility list to fill the current vacant positions for the 2026 - 2027 school year. The eligibility list will also be used to fill any vacancies which may occur within a period of one year, or until the eligibility list is depleted. Campus Safety Assistant positions work 205 days per year at a school site; typical positions are 4 hours per day. The recruitment process will consist of a training and experience examination and a structured interview.

Basic Function:

Under the direction of the Principal, patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors in non-classroom activities; enforce and assure student compliance with school and District rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Patrol and supervise campus, assuring students are safe, orderly, secure and within supervised areas; monitor lunch areas, walkways, restrooms, parking lots, grounds and adjacent streets and areas; assure safety and security of staff, campus property and the public. Enforce and assure student compliance with school and District rules, regulations, policies and procedures; respond to complaints from students, teachers, parents and others; investigate, deter and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; prevent or break up student conflicts and fights. Monitor student behavior and activity before and after school, and during passing periods, breaks and lunchtime; assure students arrive to class in a timely manner; assure students have proper permission slips outside of classrooms during instruction periods. Confer with students, administrators, faculty, staff and others concerning student behavior and assigned activities; interview students, staff and others concerning incidents; report incidents involving students and the public to appropriate staff, faculty or administrator. Escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; provide general information and assistance; assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; escort students to and from administrative offices as needed. Monitor campus for illegal activity; investigate and report instances of graffiti and vandalism; provide information to and assist law enforcement agencies with legal matters involving students. Provide general information, assistance and guidance to students; respond to student inquiries and concerns. Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; respond to emergency situations as needed; administer basic first aid to students and staff as necessary. Maintain routine records related to incidents and daily activities. Required abilities include: learning, interpreting, applying and explaining rules, policies and regulations; establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with others; understanding and following oral and written instructions; maintaining routine records related to assigned activities; determining appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; observing health and safety regulations; administering first aid and CPR.

Entrance Qualifications:

Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Possession of valid First Aid and Child/Infant/Adult CPR certificates issued by a recognized agency (on-line certificates accepted). (Copies must be submitted along with the application materials.)

Selection Process/Additional Information:

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements, as demonstrated in their application materials, will be required to successfully complete a competitive testing process to measure the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job, which may consist of a written examination, a training and experience evaluation, a performance examination, and/or structured oral interviews. The candidates achieving the top three ranks of the appropriate eligibility list will be referred for a final selection interview. The Eligibility List resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no Eligibility List exists (Ed Code 45272).
