Position
Marathon Petroleum Company's L&S Terminals has openings for shore-based Tankerman based out of the Kenova, WV Terminal. This position will report to the Kenova Terminal Shift Supervisor. Supporting the shipment and receipt of petroleum products via barge, this position is critical in playing a prominent role in enhancing life's possibilities by blending, distributing and delivering quality products in a safe, reliable and competitive manner.
This position works in all weather conditions, both day and night on 12-hour rotating shift. The Tankerman must be able to work safely and independently while maintaining motivation to effectively and efficiently complete the job.

Responsibilities
- Conducting barge transfers (loading and unloading) based on Marathon's procedures and all applicable USCG regulations/guidelines.
- Troubleshooting barges, performing minor maintenance on barges and being proficient in all phases of barge transfers, including heater operation on hot oil barges.
- Gauging, sampling, hooking up, sampling and laboratory testing of petroleum products.
- Stair climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, and often working outdoors.
- Preparing terminal reports, maintaining records and documenting all transfer times to be turned into the office in a timely manner.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Merchant Marine Credential (MMC) with Tankerman PIC within 6 months of hire date
- Must qualify and maintain a valid TWIC card
- Ability to learn basic computer skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and ability to document and maintain accurate records
- Ability to learn mechanical and electrical systems
Preferences
- Associate degree or vocational technical training
- Previous river industry experience (tank barge worker) and/or petroleum industry experience
