Substation Designer

Overview Seeking a detail-oriented, creative designer with experience drafting and developing designs for high voltage substations. This position entails detail design of substation projects from 4kV to 345kV. The position is located at our Boerne office and may require some overnight travel to project sites. Job Responsibilities Computer‑aided design and drafting of all engineering products and deliverables. Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to correct discrepancies in drawings and designs. Typical drafting includes plan and profile drawings for: General Arrangements Plan Views and Elevation Views Grounding Plans and Details Foundation Plans and Details Cable Trough/Conduit Plans and Details Foundation Layout Plans Importation of tables and calculations such as BOMs and creating notes to be applied to each drawing. Steel Structure Fabrication Drawings Concrete Foundation Detail Drawings Oil Containment Detail Drawings Metal Grate Platforms Detail Drawings Fire Wall Detail Drawings Self‑checks all work performed to ensure its accuracy before turning it over to the supervisor or designee for review. Understand and meet project schedule and quality requirements. Complete drawings accurately and efficiently. Detail‑oriented and quality focused. Handle multiple projects concurrently and maintain flexibility to changes in assignments. Actively assist in the delivery of a complete project, including phone or e‑mail correspondence, attending meetings, and providing required project documents. Provide interdepartmental support as required. Requirements Associate’s Degree in Drafting or Design. Technical problem‑solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills; exceptional computer skills with emphasis on project management, spreadsheets, and word processing applications. Strong time‑management, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills. Ability to listen and hear, good eyesight, and ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and arms.
