Laboratory Technical Specialist

Technical Specialist – Chemistry & Urology Salary Range: $32.18 - $46.66 per hour Schedule: Day only (8 hours); weekend requirement: every other weekend; FTE: Full time. Job Summary The Technical Specialist – Chemistry and Urology serves as the technical expert in one or more laboratory disciplines, coordinating activities with other members of the laboratory team and performing routine laboratory work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science or documented equivalent education and training per ASCP Board of Certification alternate routes for certification. Four (4) years working in a laboratory, including one (1) year of experience in area of specialty. ASCP Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills; ability and desire to teach; ability to investigate and resolve questions and problems; ability to objectively evaluate technical equipment and methodologies. Intermediate reading: ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Intermediate writing: ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures. Intermediate speaking: ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Intermediate mathematical skills: ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, calculate percentages, ratios, and interpret bar graphs. Intermediate reasoning ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Demands and Environment Stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, bend, talk, and hear during shifts as described. Lifts: up to 10 pounds continuously, up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 35 pounds occasionally. Typical noise level: moderate.
