Pediatric Hepatologist Opportunity at Duke Children's Hospital

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding Pediatric Hepatologist to join our academic faculty. This is a unique opportunity to join a nationally recognized, high-performing program at one of the nation's leading academic medical centers. We are seeking a physician who is passionate about advancing the clinical care of pediatric liver disease, liver transplantation, multidisciplinary care, education, and clinical research. Candidates with board eligibility/certification in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology are especially encouraged to apply.

As a Duke faculty member, you will become part of a collaborative team dedicated to improving the lives of children with complex liver, gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders. In 2025, Duke led the nation in 1-year liver survival after transplant, according to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.

Clinical Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient care for children with acute and chronic liver disease and post-transplant follow-up
  • Participate in multidisciplinary transplant team collaborations with surgery, hepatology, nursing, social work, and pharmacy
  • Supervise and educate pediatric GI fellows, residents, and medical students
  • Conduct or collaborate on clinical and translational research in pediatric liver disease
  • Contribute to quality improvement, program development, and national/international professional activities
  • Assume leadership roles and direct clinical programs within the hepatology or transplant program over time

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have:

  • MD, DO, or MD/PhD
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Pediatric Gastroenterology
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology (preferred)
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care and quality improvement
  • Interest in teaching, scholarship, and academic medicine
