Power Substation Communications Engineer

Requisition ID: 94711 Job Category: Project Engineering; Consulting; Energy; Engineering Location: Amarillo, TX, United States We are currently seeking a highly motivated Power Substation Communication Engineer to join the Energy team in eGRID, USA. The candidate can be in any one of the following locations: Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; or Amarillo, TX . Responsibilities Work within a multi-discipline team to develop and/or review efficient and reliable electrical design packages for medium and high voltage substations. Review standard substation drawings and equipment configuration requirements related to these systems. Experience with industrial communication protocols, such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, DNP3.0, and Ethernet/IP. Evaluate a design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Investigate root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements. Create SCADA point lists, remote terminal unit (RTU) programs, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), meter programs, metering overviews, and calculations under the supervision of a lead engineer. Develop complete design packages for site network and communication architectures compliant with client and regulatory requirements. Implement sound cyber security architecture and configurations on substation devices, applying NERC CIP compliance requirements. Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution. Knowledge of applicable industry standards including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE. High level of interpersonal communication skills, including strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills. Ability to perform independently and in a team environment and provide project ownership. Preferred A Professional Engineer (PE) registration. Prior utility consulting experience. Travel : Travel to client sites as required. Reports to : Manager, Power Delivery & Integration, eGRID (Energy).
