The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a transplant surgeon to provide a wide variety of liver and kidney transplant procedures and hepatobiliary procedures for benign and malignant diseases. The accepted candidate will be required to provide clinical excellence, scholarly enthusiasm, and a track record of excellent clinical performance. The provider will have direct patient care responsibilities. Ideal candidates will have at least three years of clinical practice experience. The division has a robust clinical program that includes seven full-time faculty surgeons working across the Texas Medical Center and at Baylor-affiliated institutions including Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Texas Children's Hospital. The successful candidate will be a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation. The successful candidate should exhibit a commitment to clinical excellence, research, innovation, teaching and collaborative practices. The candidate must be certified by the American Board of Surgery and qualify for an unrestricted Texas medical license.

Job duties include supporting the liver and kidney transplant programs at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital, and Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. The candidate will render professional care and services to patients in accordance with accepted standards of care for the surgical transplant profession and within the following scope of practice. The candidate will provide donor procurement coverage for the liver and kidney transplant programs at BSLMC, TCH, and MEDVAMC as assigned. The candidate will provide clinical call-coverage as assigned. The candidate will work in collaboration with other BCM specialties including but not limited to Hepatology and Nephrology. The candidate will obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. The candidate will perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. The candidate will prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. The candidate will maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures. The candidate will monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records. The candidate will provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients. The candidate will communicate with other physicians, patients, and family members of matters concerning patient care. The candidate will collaborate with other providers and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.

Minimum qualifications include a Doctor of Medicine and completion of transplant fellowship. Certification/licenses/registration required: MD license, American Board of Surgery certified.
