Environmental Field Compliance Specialist

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE FIELD SPECIALIST (South Central Region) This position will be office‑based for the South‑Central region with a GA Power office location selected by the hiring manager. The primary service area includes Macon, Forest Park, Plant Scherer, Noah's Ark, Sand's Place, Central, MDC‑Jackson, and Tifton. Job Summary The Environmental Field Specialist supports Georgia Power in meeting current compliance obligations and preparing for future needs. The role focuses on environmental compliance programs, governance, communication, implementation of technologies (Enablon), training, mitigations, guidance, and other related functions. Job Requirements BS or BA degree in a science‑related field (e.g., Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Management, Engineering) or equivalent work experience. 3 to 5 years’ experience in environmental compliance, project management, or related areas such as air, land, water, waste, or CCR, power generation, transmission, distribution operations, emergency response, or regulatory compliance. Commitment to business and personal ethics. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence. Strong judgment and problem‑solving skills to analyze and resolve regulatory and compliance issues. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Experience coordinating, planning, and delivering training, communications, and guidance on new or existing processes. Proficiency with technologies and database systems such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Enablon, and ability to deliver reports and metrics. Ability to work independently, organized, and maintain a flexible schedule that may include non‑traditional hours and travel across the state. Major Job Responsibilities Build and maintain relationships with key internal customers and peers to ensure environmental policy and procedure understanding and active compliance at GPC facilities. Provide training and support for the Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Management Information System (EMIS), serving as an expert user of Enablon. Identify and communicate best practices for continuous improvement and share them with other field specialists. Act as a facilitator between sites and environmental media as needed. Lead new site pilots and support throughout the site adoption process of the EMIS, maintaining proficiency in all EMS/EMIS aspects. Facilitate risk identification and continuous improvement loops through informal programmatic reviews of internal processes and procedures. Obtain and/or maintain required certifications (e.g., waste DOT, RCRA, HAZWOPER) as assigned. Serve as a credible spokesperson on environmental affairs for Georgia Power and Southern Company in internal and external settings. Serve as the primary support contact in a defined region and backup other field specialists as needed. Required Vehicle Use Use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle is required. Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience and a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle to be operated. No revocation of driving privileges within the last 36 months and no convictions of major traffic violations within the last 12 months. No pending charges for a major traffic violation. Consent to Motor Vehicle Driver’s Record Monitoring via GPC Fleet Management.
