Chief Underwriting Officer

A fast-growing, private-backed medical stop loss MGU in the Austin, TX area is seeking a Chief Underwriting Officer to join its leadership team. The organization is in a strong growth phase, with a focus on delivering stop loss solutions to self-funded employers and captive programs. This is a hands-on leadership role with full ownership of the underwriting function, working closely with executive leadership to shape underwriting strategy, risk appetite, and overall portfolio performance. Key Responsibilities: Lead underwriting across new and renewal medical stop loss business Establish and refine underwriting guidelines, pricing strategy, and risk selection Evaluate submissions and support structuring of complex risks Partner with executive leadership on business planning and growth initiatives Build underwriting processes and support team development over time Collaborate closely with broker and consultant partners Required Experience: Deep medical stop loss underwriting experience (carrier, MGU, or reinsurance) Strong technical underwriting capabilities with a hands-on approach Experience with self-funded employer plans and stop loss program structures Proven ability to contribute to underwriting strategy and portfolio performance Preferred Experience: Experience with captive programs Exposure to high-growth environments Strong knowledge of the stop loss broker/consultant landscape #J-18808-Ljbffr Selby Jennings
