Who We Are Looking For Our Lead Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for routine, preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance at the City of Ft. Lauderdale water treatment facility. We search for a conscientious leader who will uphold standards for safe, clean water while working both indoors and outdoors. If you enjoy protecting nature’s precious resource, this position is for you. Schedule Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Participation in an on‑call rotation on weekends, holidays, and outside normal work hours is required; emergency response may be necessary. What You Will Be Doing Perform all routine, preventive, and corrective assignments per the maintenance program. Maintain housekeeping in the maintenance department and on vehicles. Carry out work safely and professionally following established procedures. Complete all work to meet the project manager’s goals and objectives. Install, service, maintain, and repair pumps, motors, chlorinators, and other equipment. Review manuals and maintenance records to develop work plans. Perform welding, acetylene burning, brazing, soldering, minor carpentry, and painting as required. Submit reports of work activities. Adjust plant equipment to optimize treatment results and maintain compliance with permits. Conduct daily facility checks to document operational status and maintenance needs. What You Will Need to Succeed High school or trade school diploma, with courses in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance a plus. Minimum seven years of experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment. Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, CMMS, and SCADA. Experience maintaining pumps, compressors, and plumbing fixtures. Valid Florida driver’s license. Understanding of methods, tools, and materials used in constructing and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems in water treatment. Knowledge of the Electrical Code. Knowledge of PLCs and industrial electronics. Proficiency in welding (gas or arc) and reading technical manuals, drawings, and specifications. Record keeping in the CMMS. Troubleshooting electromechanical control systems and calibrating instrumentation. Ability to work independently under pressure with competing demands. Thorough knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in water treatment. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Background check, pre‑placement physical, and drug screen required. Mutual Dispute Resolution (MDR) MDR applies to both employees and the company. Most workplace disputes are resolved through binding arbitration. Certain exceptions are outlined in the full agreement.
