Staff Accountant

Staff AccountantThis position is responsible for supporting the accounting function through the preparation, analysis, and maintenance of financial records. The Staff Accountant performs general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and assists with the monthly close process while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This individual works independently on assigned responsibilities and collaborates with other departments to support efficient and accurate financial operations.Essential FunctionsPrepare and post journal entries to the general ledger with accuracy and timeliness.Perform monthly and periodic account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, including preparation of supporting documentation.Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues and communicate findings to leadership.Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and schedules.Support audits by gathering documentation, preparing schedules, and responding to requests.Review and verify accuracy of financial transactions and supporting documentation.Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and related reporting.Participate in process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper coding, documentation, and financial reporting.Maintain organized electronic and physical records for accounting documentation.Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all company financial matters.Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work environment as applicable.CompetenciesProblem Solving/AnalysisAttention to DetailDependableStrong Communication SkillsTime Management/InitiativeOrganization SkillsERP/Excel ProficiencyIntegrity and ConfidentialityAbility to Work IndependentlyTeamworkThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment. Base hours are Monday through Friday, with additional hours required during peak periods such as month-end and year-end close.TravelMinimal travel may be required for this position.Required Education, Experience & CertificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or equivalent experienceWorking knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reportingProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially ExcelPreferred Education, Experience & CertificationsTwo to five years of accounting experienceExperience in a manufacturing or food production environmentExperience with ERP systemsKnowledge of GAAP and internal controlsAdditional Eligibility QualificationsNone.
