Internal Communications Assistant

Summary: Assists implementation of internal communication efforts within the organization to inform and engage employees. This includes drafting and distributing internal communications for multiple communications channels, including print and digital communications.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assist with compiling, editing and writing clear and compelling content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as monthly newsletters, TV screens, flyers, lock screens or regular email bulletins.
• Assist with the design/format of the layout of the above content on their respective channels.
• Assist with ensuring internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization.
• Distribute content to various NJ TRANSIT locations across the state via inter office mail
• Occasionally visit other NJT offices/locations to gather and share information with employees in satellite locations. Serving as a liaison between those locations and the Communications Hub at HQ.
• Assist with other reporting, data collection or creation and dissemination of other documents as directed by the Manager, Internal Communications and/or Senior. Director Internal Communications.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

• B.A. in English, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
• 1 year of experience in internal communications, public relations, or similar role.
• Previous experience with content management systems (CMS) or intranet platforms is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate across departments.
• Knowledge of Microsoft suite preferred.
• Experience with Contact Monkey (or similar email software tool) preferred.
• Some HTML experience or experience managing content for intranets/websites preferred.
• Knowledge of uploading content and building out web pages on the Drupal platform a plus.
