About the Position

Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours (7A-7P) Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience License: RN License Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred, Basic Cardiac Rhythm certification required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and Med-Surg nursing skills, IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, post-op monitoring, cardiac monitoring, and telemetry interpretation Description: We are seeking a MedSurg/Tele RN to join our team. The facility has 637 licensed beds and maintains a Level 1 Trauma designation. It serves as a teaching hospital and is recognized as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The unit consists of 35 beds with a census averaging 35 patients. Common patient types and diagnoses include orthopedic and trauma cases, head trauma, post-operative surgeries, and co-morbidities typical in the Med-Surg population such as diabetes and hypertension. The typical patient-to-RN ratio is 1:4-6. The role requires competencies in trach care, chest tube management, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and IV insertions. Additionally, you will coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team and participate in discharge planning and patient education. The department includes CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and transporting patients as needed. There is resource support available including discharge nurses and a PICC team. Telemetry monitoring and technology include EMR systems and various vital sign monitoring equipment. A weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts per schedule cycle is expected, along with working one shift during each major holiday. Requests for time off must be approved by management. The unit culture is busy yet emphasizes teamwork.
