At AEG, we believe great patient experiences begin with great teams. As an Optical Consultant, you'll work alongside the Optometrists to support all aspects of patient care and education, ensuring that patients receive exceptional care.

Responsibilities include:

• Delivering extraordinary experience to each patient. Providing patients with a complete understanding of our customized recommendations for products and services.
• Receiving patient handoff from technicians or doctors and establishing a rapport by asking lifestyle questions to identify their visual needs and recommend the most appropriate frames, lenses, lens treatments, and specialty products.
• Keeping current on company/industry products and procedures, manufacturer rebates, and types of lenses and frames available.
• Taking and returning patient calls, updating patients on the status of their order and resolving order issues should they arise. Escalating any issues to management.
• Assisting patients in selecting frames, lens type, and lens treatments including tints and coatings; depending on specific patient needs and facial measurements.
• Educating patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care, maintenance, warranty coverage, protection plans and replacement options.
• Maintaining a thorough understanding of both medical and vision insurance plans, including eligibility, benefits, copays, deductibles, authorizations, and coverage limitations.
• Interpreting prescriptions written by Optometrist and Ophthalmologist.
• Accurately interpreting prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists. Entering all prescription information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and ALE system while ensuring all required documentation is scanned and attached to the patient's chart.
• Following up on all pending orders. Verifying all orders are within the time guidelines and informing patients if delays occur. Notifying patients when eyewear is ready.
• Dispense glasses by inspecting the product, checking for proper fit, adjusting if necessary, and asking for feedback.
• Adjusting eyewear to ensure visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort by using various tools to perform eyewear adjustments and repairs.
• Proficient in using tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, frame warmers, etc.
• Regularly communicating with technicians and managers, providing additional patient information, or asking for an order status.
• Inspecting the final product ensuring there are no flaws; cleaning and polishing lenses.
• Cleaning and organizing frame boards, displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, maintaining overall cleanliness and visual appeal of the practice.
• Understanding product issues and analyzing any problems. Thoroughly and accurately answering patient questions regarding insurance, warranty, products, materials, services, pricing, upgrades, promotions, etc.
• Performing other duties as needed and as assigned by manager.

Qualifications include:

• High School or GED qualification.
• ABO/NCLE preferred but not required.
• Minimum of one-year experience working as an Optician strongly preferred.
• Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred.
• PC skills to include MC Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Excellent customer service skills and pleasant demeanor, experience with sales preferred.
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Collaborate with co-workers and patients.
