Description US:TX:Edinburg | PATIENT CARE SUPPORT | Full Time Posted yesterday Position Summary The Patient Registration Representative performs general registration functions including appointment scheduling, collection of applicable co‑pays, co‑insurance, and deductibles using the computer system. The role involves obtaining complete and accurate patient demographic, insurance, financial information and patient benefits/eligibility. It also requires handling referral/pre‑authorization/pre‑certification approvals from insurance companies and physician offices. DHR Health - US:TX:Edinburg - Nights - Varies Qualifications High School Diploma/GED required. Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Bilingual – English/Spanish. 1 year of related customer service experience. Ability to respond to patient needs by interpreting facial expressions and communicating effectively via verbal and written means. Reasoning ability and good independent judgment. Ability to work with frequent interruptions while maintaining strong customer service skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to communicate in both Spanish and English is strongly preferred. Responsibilities Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others and incorporating them into services and standards. Demonstrates high‑quality service excellence, positive customer service, and telephone etiquette while treating all customers with dignity and respect. Ensures patient confidentiality requirements are met in accordance with HIPAA policies and procedures. Interviews patients or responsible parties to obtain necessary demographic information for accurate registration. Obtains and reviews doctor’s orders for appropriate signature, date, diagnosis, and admission status before registration. Communicates with doctor’s office to obtain missing orders or additional diagnosis for medical necessity. Reviews and confirms patient’s financial information by obtaining insurance carrier details, benefit info, policy number, group name, and group number. Identifies appropriate coordination of benefits for insurance carriers. Utilizes online verification systems (e.g., TMHP, FISS, Availity) for eligibility checks. Explains rates, estimates charges, and hospital policies regarding up‑front collections as needed. Opens and closes cash batches appropriately and follows approved naming guidelines. Collects deductibles, co‑pays, unpaid balances, and co‑insurance payments and provides patients with receipts. Determines financial status and refers patients for financial screening as appropriate. Adheres to administration on‑call schedule when the Financial Counselor is off duty. Performs appointment scheduling functions and registers patients for ancillary services. Initiates Order Management to enter necessary orders. Reviews records of prior patient visits to determine status of any unpaid balances. Takes over counter payments from patient statements. Ensures referral/pre‑authorization/pre‑certification requirements are met. Accurately completes the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) form as appropriate. Initiates Pathway Compliance Advisor to determine if an ABN must be provided for services identified as not medically necessary. Provides patients with the Important Message from Medicare for all Medicare inpatient admissions. Ensures patients receive the Conditions of Admission form and obtains signatures. Scans photo ID, insurance cards, and doctor’s orders in the appropriate document type in RegAssist. Utilizes Form Fast to print or reprint forms and labels. Verifies and places appropriate wrist bracelets on patients with required identifiers. Reconciles cash drawer, creates deposit, and adheres to security measures. Completes necessary reports and patient logs on a daily basis. Assembles patient charts in proper order for the next day’s schedule. Communicates information about scheduled case procedures to various departments and personnel. Consistently adheres to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance dress policy.
