Substitute Custodian

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Substitute Custodian to join our facilities maintenance team. This role involves providing cleaning and custodial services across various school or facility locations on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will have experience in janitorial and custodial tasks, with a focus on maintaining clean, safe, and well-organized environments. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the cleanliness and safety of our community spaces while gaining valuable facilities maintenance skills. Responsibilities Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas. Maintain floors through buffing, polishing, and other floor care techniques to ensure a clean and safe surface. Use commercial cleaning equipment and supplies efficiently to uphold sanitation standards. Conduct minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, fixing fixtures, or reporting larger repairs needed. Assist with special cleaning projects including industrial cleaning or deep sanitation as required. Ensure all cleaning supplies are stocked and properly stored. Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment during all custodial activities. Support facilities maintenance efforts by assisting with painting or other light repair work when necessary. Requirements Prior janitorial or custodial experience preferred, especially in commercial or industrial settings. Knowledge of floor care techniques including buffing and polishing. Experience with residential painting or general facilities maintenance is a plus. Ability to operate cleaning machinery and tools safely and effectively. Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following established procedures. Flexibility to work on short notice as a substitute or replacement custodian when needed. Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks which may include lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and climbing ladders if necessary.
