Traveling Superintendent (Commercial Construction)

Summary Traveling Superintendent responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day field activities across multiple western projects, ensuring schedule, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Duties & Responsibilities Managing the day‑to‑day field activities to ensure that project milestone dates and the overall schedule completion date are met. Creating short‑interval look‑ahead project schedules and communicating upcoming events to stakeholders. Managing the project site safety plan, fostering a culture that values safety, health and cleanliness. Coordinating work to ensure it is constructed in an orderly and deliberate manner consistent with contractual standards and best‑practice standards. Establishing and maintaining dimensional controls for the project, including the use of third‑party survey and layout personnel when appropriate. Verifying that all work is installed in a workmanlike manner (e.g., plumb, level, straight). Obtaining all required inspections and ensuring that the quality aspects of the physical work are fully documented. Ensuring compliance with all contract terms, legal requirements, and community regulations. Administering client‑specific programs such as Landlord/Site Rules and Regulations, Safety, and Site‑Specific Security. Conducting and/or attending pre‑construction, progress and other project and staff meetings. Managing self‑performed activities to ensure work is performed within the established project budget. Managing changes in project scope to ensure that the most recent documents are used at all times. Administering contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders and other agreements to meet scope, terms and conditions. Managing the punch list and project closeout process to assure timely completion. Maintaining daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates and email correspondence. Providing timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups, such as the client’s internal IT department, vendors, security, etc. Completing project schedules for proposals, reviewing estimates, assisting in creating proposals, and participating in interviews. Engaging in marketing and obtaining projects. Performing other duties as assigned to support company goals. Qualifications & Requirements A degree in Construction Management or a similar field, or a Journeyman status in a building trade from an accredited organization, with progressive supervisory experience. Demonstrated understanding of construction means and methods associated with the renovation and construction of commercial and institutional buildings and related site work. Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, scheduling tools, Microsoft Office, and other construction‑industry software. Current safety credentials including OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR. Construction Skills Understands the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules. Understands project control and change‑order management. Critical Thinking Skills Excellent listening and communication skills. Ability to identify and resolve complex problems. Strong problem‑solving skills, with the agility to work both within and outside established systems to achieve timely results. Action Oriented Goal‑oriented and able to react quickly to challenging circumstances to achieve desired results. Proactive, seeking problems that could impede progress and persistently taking responsibility for solving them. Committed to delivering quality work the first time, minimizing re‑work.
