Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking skilled and dedicated Emergency Department Registered Nurses to join our team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment serving a diverse patient population, including neonates to geriatric patients, with cases ranging from minor illnesses to critical injuries.

Facility Overview

Daily Patient Volume: 150-180 patients

Main Emergency Department: 33 beds

Trauma/Resuscitation Area: 8 beds

Behavioral Health Rooms: 4 rooms in one pod (can convert to medical as needed)

Vertical Care Area: Utilized for ESI 3 and ESI 4 patients

Minimum Experience

Registered Nurses: Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience preferred. Candidates with 1.5 years of ED experience and 2 years of experience outside of ED may be considered with management approval. Travel experience is not included in this requirement.

Patient Types

Minor to critical cases including: Sepsis, DKA, Respiratory Illness, GI bleeds requiring emergent blood products, and banding.

Heavy Trauma Population: As a Level 2 trauma center, we manage a high volume of trauma cases, particularly during the summer months (e.g., stab wounds, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle collisions, drownings, and falls).

Complete Stroke Center: Capable of taking stroke patients for up to 24 hours.

Responsibilities

Provide care for a diverse range of patients, utilizing critical thinking, prioritization, and effective communication.

Conduct ESI assessments during triage to prioritize patient care effectively.

Handle Sexual Assault patients, including evidence collection responsibilities in rotation with permanent staff (no pelvic exams required).

Team Support

ED Techs: Support ratio of 1:10

Charge Nurse: Coverage for day and night shifts, available 24/7

Physician Coverage: Available 24/7, including hospitalists and nurse practitioners

Additional support resources: Phlebotomy, Radiology, and Security

Patient Ratios

Registered Nurse: 1:4-5

Licensed Practical Nurse: 1:4-5

Required Certifications

Registered Nurses: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS

Licensed Practical Nurses: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS

Orientation and Training

Facility Orientation: 8 hours

ED Specific Education: 4 hours

Minimum of 2 shifts (12 hours each) on the unit for practical experience

Scheduling

Shifts may vary, with potential times including 0630-1900, 1000-2230, 1200-0030, 1400-0200, and 1830-0700. Weekend shifts may be required depending on staffing needs.

Other Notes

Ideal candidates will be open to floating to other units such as Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU while maintaining role-specific tasks under their scope of practice. Candidates may also be expected to assist in precepting students.
