Design the power behind safe, reliable water

You’ll take the lead on detailed power system design for complex water and wastewater treatment facilities – the infrastructure that keeps communities running and protects public health.

This is not routine building power. This is high-impact work where your calculations, layouts, and specs directly influence reliability, safety, and resilience.

You’ll be the go-to electrical power engineer, working with minimal supervision from senior leadership and collaborating closely with clients and multi-discipline teams.

What You'll Work On

You’ll be hands-on with the power systems that keep water and wastewater treatment facilities online and safe:

• Electrical power systems for water treatment facilities
• Electrical power systems for wastewater treatment facilities
• Load and short-circuit studies
• Power quality, harmonics, and power factor analysis
• Conduit routing and raceway systems
• Motor control center (MCC) design
• Switchgear design
• Technical specifications for power systems and equipment

You’ll lean on standards and references every day: NEC, NFPA 820, NESC, and the IEEE color book series.

Your core challenge: design robust, code-compliant power systems that work flawlessly in some of the most demanding public infrastructure environments.

What You'll Be Doing

• Perform detailed electrical power systems design for water and wastewater treatment facilities with minimal supervision from a Senior Electrical Engineer
• Execute load calculations to properly size equipment and feeders
• Develop detailed conduit routing and raceway plans
• Design motor control centers and associated control schemes
• Design low- and medium-voltage switchgear configurations
• Prepare and generate technical specifications for electrical equipment and systems
• Analyze available short circuit current for equipment duty and protection
• Calculate voltage drop and recommend design adjustments
• Evaluate harmonic distortion and power factor for system performance
• Apply NEC, NFPA 820, and NESC requirements to all aspects of design
• Use IEEE color book series guidance in power system planning and design
• Conduct field investigative work and support system start-up activities
• Communicate clearly with internal teams and external clients
• Represent the firm positively in client interactions

What We're Looking For

• 6 to 12 years of experience working in Electrical Engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• Current Professional Engineer (PE) registration
• Familiarity with power system applications including short circuit, voltage drop, harmonic distortion, and power factor calculations
• Field investigative and start-up experience
• Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA 820, and NESC
• Familiarity with the IEEE color book series
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly motivated, articulate, self-starting, and able to interact positively with clients

You’re the person the team calls when a power system problem looks ugly – because you understand both the calculations and the realities in the field. You’ve been on site, dug into as-built conditions, supported commissioning, and you know how treatment plant environments change the game for electrical design.

You’re comfortable leading your own work with limited supervision, translating code and IEEE guidance into practical designs, and explaining your decisions to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
