Position Licensed Practical Nurse vacancy in the Veterans Outpatient Clinic servicing Residential Veterans at the DVA. Address: 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT. Shift: Full‑time, 40 hours per week - First Shift. Schedule: Monday‑Friday 6:45am‑3:15pm, no holidays. Benefits State employee benefits overview page. Measures, administers, and documents medications including insulin injections. Performs narcotic counts. Checks and may administer intravenous medications. Reports changes in patients to doctors. Ensures restraints are applied correctly. Transcribes doctors’ medication orders. Dispenses certain medications in the absence of a doctor. Applies topical medication. Takes and charts temperature, pulse, and respiration. Performs simple nursing treatments. Monitors general patient needs including personal hygiene. Reports on patient conditions and behavior. Maintains a safe and healthy unit environment. Administers enemas or suppositories. Performs Foley catheterization care. Orients patients on medications and their use. Might perform emergency first aid. Might drive patients to necessary appointments or outings. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Knowledge of practical nursing specialties and bedside care; medications for patients with physical or intellectual disabilities; infection control practices; nutrition and diet; medical and lab sciences. Interpersonal, oral communication, and written communication skills. Ability to keep records and lead staff. Minimum Qualifications License or temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut issued by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing OR a multistate or compact Licensed Practical Nurse license. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility. Experience with regulations from the Department of Public Health and Medicare & Medicaid Services in a Long‑Term Care setting. Experience working with Veteran populations. Experience with dementia patients. Experience documenting in an electronic Health Record (eMAR). Experience deescalating and calming clients or patients.
