Regional Program Co-ordinator Ontario South

Strong Start to Reading™ is a registered charity that delivers a unique, volunteer‑based, community‑based reading assistance program to children in the early grades. In this role you will coordinate delivery and support the implementation and expansion of our well‑established Letters, Sounds and Words™ program. Your responsibilities include program coordination, fund development, and public relations. You will build relationships with school board decision‑makers, support program leaders within schools, connect with school staff, and engage community philanthropists and donors. You should thrive with multiple priorities, enjoy public speaking, and like working from home. Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail are required. A background in primary education, early literacy and language, marketing or public relations is an asset. Preference will be given to former leaders from within the education community who bring an established professional network, profile, and who are local to this region. You will report to the Director of Program and training will be provided. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) is required. Comfort with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom is an asset. This is a permanent, part‑time role working approximately 20‑25 hours per week with some additional evening, weekend, and occasional special assignment work. A reliable car and the ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 30 lbs are required. Remuneration $25 per hour plus payroll benefits, mileage, group insurance, and retirement benefits. You will work from various locations including: schools and community organizations for volunteer coach training, schools, businesses, community centres, and other relevant venues in the Ontario South Region. Key Responsibilities Program Delivery, Support and Accountability (65%) Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to develop partnerships with School Boards for implementation. Manage the process of starting the program at new sites. Follow up with Site Coordinators, providing email, phone/virtual call, and in‑person support as needed. Provide input on content for e‑newsletters and memos to sites. Create local content for program‑related communications with site coordinators throughout the year. Assist with recruitment and support of new local Volunteer Coach Trainers. Help plan and participate in Training‑Team Meetings. Maintain a file of parent, volunteer, and media stories reflecting program impact. Maintain accurate Program Partner contact information and manage data in Strong Start’s database (SiTE SOURCE®). Review and analyse assessment results and volunteer hours. Support the Operations Team with program kit refurbishment, materials management, consumable orders, and kit preparation/return. Assist the Director of Program and COO in revising manuals, policies, and procedures as needed. Participate in special projects, program expansion, and support emerging regions. Community Engagement and Public Relations: (25%) Provide updates for the fundraising database. Develop promotional opportunities to raise awareness of Strong Start using consistent branding and coordination with the National Program Deployment Centre. Conduct speaking engagements to promote Strong Start and early literacy. Collaborate with the Director of Development & Communications and Development Officer to build a local donor base of organizations, corporations, and philanthropists. Secure revenue through grant applications and donor meetings within the Fund Development framework. Represent Strong Start at local Literacy Groups, Chambers of Commerce, and approved collective impact tables. Prepare stakeholder engagement materials, including presentations, social media posts, and website messaging. General (10%) Attend and actively participate in team meetings. Adopt the EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System®) model. Complete ongoing training (e.g., health & safety, cyber security). Submit timesheets on time. Qualifications / Skills / Requirements / Attributes Undergraduate degree in English, Psychology, Literacy Studies, or related field. Experience as an Elementary School Administrator or Curriculum Coordinator is an asset. Experience as an Elementary School Teacher is an asset. Knowledge of early child development and early literacy. Proven leadership skills and experience. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Outgoing and congenial nature; comfortable presenting to small and large groups. Ability to develop and nurture relationships. Think‑on‑feet ability. Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and well‑organized. Team‑environment experience. Proficiency in standard software, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Office 365, Windows. Research skills for community and subject‑matter data. Desire to stay current and develop expertise in early literacy. Support for innovation, continuous improvement, and new opportunities. Embrace change and work at high performance standards. Enjoy a fun, high‑performing workplace culture. Reliable car is essential; day‑travel required. Must be able to lift 30 lbs safely. Home office required; work‑from‑home policy applies. Training and Orientation Training and orientation provided by the Director of Program, COO, Director of Development & Communications, and CEO. All training will be delivered before full responsibility is assumed.
