Nurse Practitioner

Nurse PractitionerThe nurse practitioner will assist in medical care of office patients in the outpatient setting as outlined in the principal duties and responsibilities below and will participate in all aspects of patient care as indicated. The nurse practitioner will also have direct reporting responsibility to the attending physician of the respective patients for all evaluations and other duties performed.Major responsibilities include:Providing direct care to patientsDemonstrating the ability to problem-solve, analyze existing programs, and apply process improvement principlesExamining patients to obtain information about their physical conditionMaking tentative diagnosis and decisions about management and the patientObtaining, compiling, and recording patient medical data, including health notes and results of physical examinationAdministering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiograms, and laboratory testsParticipating in patient care conferences when appropriateDescribing the etiology and symptomatology of each selected disease process within specialty areaDiscussing current trends in management of patients with each selected disease processConsistently executing those aspects of the nursing care plan requiring specialized clinical expertise and skillRecognizing and addressing situations and concurrent medical problems which pose a challenge to the patientAssisting with the communication of the discharge plan to the patient and significant othersObtaining the results of diagnostic studies and initiating further treatment in collaboration with attending physician/designeeConsistently demonstrating commitment and accountability for the primary responsibility of providing quality patient care to a specialized group of patientsAlways demonstrating respect for the patient’s confidentialityDemonstrating responsiveness to the patient and family membersInterpreting medical/nursing management to the patient, family, and other health care professionalsDiscussing the stages of death and dying and methods of intervention appropriate to each patient, which will enhance and ensure quality of nursing careMaintaining awareness of new developments in specialized area of expertiseApplying appropriate current theoretical concepts when implementing changes in medical/nursing careIdentifying the appropriate personnel to contact for specific problemsInteracting with, and appropriately involving other health professionals in patient managementDemonstrating a working knowledge of computers/information systemsDemonstrating competence in crisis situationsRecognizing/identifying critical changes in patient’s clinical statusIdentifying the clinical manifestations of an emergency situation which require immediate intervention and responding in an appropriate and timely mannerIdentifying and responding appropriately to the impact of the crisis of acute illness upon the patient, family, and other members of the health care teamPerforming other duties within the scope of the positionQualifications:Must possess current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in NYS.Must possess demonstrated effective communication skills both written and verbal.Salary: $110,000 to $125,000 per year DOE
