SUMMARY OF POSITION

Develop and implement a safe and effective training and competitive environment for student athletes. Display a sincere concern for student athlete welfare, demonstrating excellent leadership, role modeling, organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong commitment to Elms College policies and regulations, NCAA regulations and Title IX. Commitment to build a successful, respected Division III program.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organization, development and administration of all phases of the mens basketball program.
• Establishes overall goals for the mens basketball program, organizes practice and is responsible for game management.
• Provides effective supervision of mens basketball student athletes in practice, competition and life management. Ensures ongoing eligibility of athletes; monitors academic progress and demonstrates a sincere concern for the welfare of student athletes.
• Plan and implement off-season and pre-season workouts. Responsible for teaching skills to student athletes and providing them with opportunities for specific knowledge.
• Develops and implements a safe and effective training and competitive environment for student athletes.
• Recruits academically qualified players utilizing current methods, e.g. telephone, mail, game visibility, etc.
• Attends and participates in admissions recruiting events. Works effectively with the Admissions Office staff to ensure a consistent, effective recruitment effort.
• Serves as a role model to athletes by conducting oneself on and off the court in an ethical, appropriate, professional manner and displaying values that reflect the mission and goals of the College.
• Works with the Athletic Director, Director of Public Safety, Facilities Manager, Residence Life Director, etc. to ensure proper oversight of student athletes living on campus.
• Adheres to/Ensures compliance with NCAA, ECAC, NECC rules, regulations, policies, procedures and Title IX.
• Works with the Athletics Director in department activities, including intramurals, fundraising and other duties as assigned
• Demonstrates a strong commitment toward building a successful, respected Division III program.
• Manages mens basketball program budget and orders equipment/supplies.
• Supervises Assistant Coach(es)
• Serves on committees as needed; attends department meetings as required.
• Coordinates officiating. (Approximately 300 contests and 600 officials per year).
• Coordinates transportation needs for all athletic programs. (Approximately 300 trips) and general of athletic department (50 trips).
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelors degree in an appropriate field.

Experience

• Coaching and athletics administration experience is essential.
• Proven ability to relate to student athletes, academic community, student body, off-campus constituents, professional colleagues and the general public.
• Proven administrative, organizational and recruiting skills. Ability to use various software applications and standard office equipment. Valid drivers license required.
• CPR, First Aid and AED Certification Required.

• Use of general office equipment in an office setting. Requires an equal amount of standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing multiple levels of stairs, light lifting, near vision and manual dexterity to perform essential job functions. Requires ability to travel between buildings on campus with exposure to inclement weather conditions.
• May require driving or traveling to locations in the local and outside the local area on official college business.
• Background check will be conducted upon hire and on a routine basis thereafter. Valid drivers license required.
