This position is responsible for the following duties: Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License with passenger and S endorsement, demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities, and previous safe driving experience. Previous Transportation Office experience preferred. Strong interpersonal skills communicating with Administrative Staff, Transportation Staff, and district parents. A reliable person of good character who possesses the qualifications and communication skills necessary to perform the duties and comply with all applicable regulations. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing transportation. Reports To Transportation Supervisor Job Goal / Major Functions To assist the Transportation Supervisor in overall daily operations of the Transportation Department. Key Responsibilities Cover routes for absent bus drivers and/or bus aides, drive bus when necessary, and call in substitute drivers and aides on a rotating basis. Complete daily attendance roster and send it to the Board office. Distribute absence verification forms to employees for signatures and forward to Supervisor for signature. Relay pertinent information to drivers regarding students and/or road closures via radio. Maintain comprehensive communication with Supervisor throughout the day. Maintain school bus binders, including daily pre‑trip inspection sheets and repairs. Answer and address phone calls and voicemails in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. Keep accurate records of extracurricular school activities, including late runs, field trips, sports runs, and band events; assure that all trips are covered, check sports schedules daily for any changes, and provide Supervisor with weekly trip cards. Assist Supervisor in scheduling Special Education and/or homeless students received from CST; submit special transportation requests to GCSSSD in a timely manner if a student cannot be accommodated in‑house. Complete required annual safety training requirements, including CPR/First Aid certification. Have comprehensive understanding of Transfinder software. Assist Supervisor with scheduling the school year and all ESY students. Maintain professional and courteous communication with school staff, transportation staff, parents, students, and outside callers. Exercise good judgment concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles, and irregular special requests by parents of pupils. Understand all procedures as required in the Glassboro Public Schools Transportation Bus Manual. Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state, and federal authorities. Observe HIPAA regulations regarding privacy of students and staff members. Maintain good rapport with Supervisor, Transportation Staff, and School Administrators. Notify Supervisor in event of absence by 5:30 AM via cell phone. In the absence of Supervisor, maintain operation of the Transportation Office; contact Supervisor and/or Business Administrator regarding emergencies. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Transportation Supervisor, School Business Administrator/Board Secretary, Principal, or Superintendent of Schools. Terms of Employment Annual salary for a twelve (12) month position to be established by the Glassboro Public Schools Board of Education. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of non‑instructional staff.
