Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and authorization to practice in Florida
• At least 1 year of professional respiratory therapy experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, and airway management
• Ability to assess patients, develop or recommend appropriate respiratory treatment plans, and work effectively with minimal supervision
• Strong communication, clinical documentation, critical-thinking, and patient-education skills

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients and recommend respiratory treatment plans within the scope of professional practice
• Provide prescribed respiratory treatments using ventilators, oxygen and aerosol devices, nebulizers, and related equipment
• Operate, monitor, and perform required checks on invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation equipment
• Perform suctioning, chest physiotherapy, tracheostomy care, airway management, and endotracheal tube insertion or removal as permitted by policy and clinical scope
• Conduct oximetry, capnography, pulmonary function measurements, arterial punctures, 12-lead EKGs, and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Assist with respiratory-related procedures, including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, and chest tube placement
• Support emergency response and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Provide patient and family education regarding respiratory treatments, equipment, and discharge needs
• Document assessments, treatments, patient responses, test results, and shift-to-shift handoff information accurately
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians and collaborate with the broader care team
• Assist with respiratory equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality-control activities
