A highly innovative medical technology organization is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer (Direct Hire) to provide hands-on technical leadership in the development of next-generation surgical robotic instruments and electromechanical systems . This is a senior individual contributor opportunity for an accomplished mechanical engineer who thrives on solving complex design challenges, developing new system architectures, and turning early-stage concepts into reliable, manufacturable products.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical system architecture and development for sophisticated robotic instruments, mechanisms, and electromechanical assemblies, taking designs from early concepts and requirements through detailed engineering, verification, and product realization.
• Solve complex mechanical design challenges involving precision mechanisms, actuation, tolerance management, materials, reliability, manufacturability, and performance while rapidly building and evaluating functional prototypes.
• Provide technical leadership across R&D programs , guiding engineering decisions, design reviews, risk assessments, and development strategy while mentoring engineers and raising technical standards across multiple projects.
• Partner across engineering, clinical, and manufacturing disciplines to translate user and clinical needs into practical design solutions, support design transfer and scaling, and communicate technical recommendations to stakeholders throughout the organization.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of relevant engineering experience with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline; experience developing medical devices or other highly regulated products is strongly preferred.
• Extensive expertise designing high-precision mechanisms and complex rotating, electromechanical systems , including tolerance analysis, GD&T, materials selection, first-principles engineering, FEA, statistical methods, DFM/DFA, and design for reliability.
• Advanced 3D CAD and mechanical design capabilities , preferably SolidWorks, with experience developing complex assemblies, engineering drawings, production documentation, and rapid prototypes; robotics, actuation, kinematics, or sensing experience is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated success serving as a senior technical leader on complex new product development programs, including cross-functional decision-making, mentorship, verification/validation, design transfer, and progression from concept through manufacturing.

Location: Sunnyvale, CA - Onsite M-F ** Relocation Assistance Available *

Salary: 220K -330K (DOE) + 15% bonus

Pay Details: $220,000.00 to $330,000.00 per year
