Overview Texas Oncology/Texas Breast Specialists South Austin is looking for a Surgical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Breast Specialists team! This full-time role supports the South Austin location with occasional coverage for the San Marcos location a few times per month. Typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm with no call, weekends, or major holidays!! This position will be either a level 1, 2 or Sr based on candidate experience. We are expanding our Texas Breast Specialists APP team to support continued growth, enhance patient access, and improve overall flow. Our team is highly collaborative and excited to welcome a new Advanced Practice Provider. Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country and has approximately 600+ providers in 220+ sites across Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. What does the Surgical Advanced Practice Provider do? (including but not limited to) Under supervision or in collaboration with surgical attending physicians, the Surgical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers care in an outpatient clinic setting or a combination of outpatient clinic and hospital/operating room (hybrid) setting. This role focuses on the evaluation, education, and longitudinal management of patients undergoing surgical care; including but not limited to surgical consultation, pre-operative preparation, hospital/intraoperative assistance (hybrid role only), and post-operative follow-up. The APP functions as a direct caregiver, patient educator, first assist in the OR (hybrid role only), and care coordinator; ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care across the surgical continuum.
Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Qualifications The ideal candidate for the Surgical Advanced Practice Provider position will have the following background and experience: Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program. Level 1 is entry-level and typically requires a minimum of 0-3 years of experience, preferably a surgical or outpatient care setting. Level 2 requires a minimum of 3 years of experience. Level Sr requires 6 years of experience. Registered Nurse First Assistant (RFA/RFNA) certification required (hybrid role only). RN state licensure and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.

Physician Assistant Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification.
Level 1 is entry-level and typically requires 0-3 years of experience, preferably a surgical or outpatient care setting. Level 2 requires 3 years of experience. Level Sr requires 6 years of experience. Current state license as a Physician Assistant in practicing state. Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.

Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients referred for surgical evaluation.
- Performs pre-operative history and physical exams, reviews diagnostic imaging and labs, and assists in surgical planning.
- Provides post-operative follow-up care, including wound assessments, suture/staple removal, and monitoring for complications.
- Educates patients and families on surgical procedures, expectations, recovery timelines, and self-care.
- Coordinates care with surgeons, nursing staff, and ancillary services to ensure seamless transitions across the surgical continuum.
- Documents all patient encounters, assessments, and plans of care in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and incorporates evidence-based practices into clinical care.
- Develops foundational knowledge of outpatient surgical billing and documentation requirements.
- May assist with in-office procedures with appropriate training.
- Assists in the operating room as first or second assist, following institutional credentialing and training requirements, including patient positioning, prepping, draping, and procedural support (hybrid role only).
- Performs post-operative rounds and communicates findings to the surgical team (hybrid role only).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Educational development with programmatic training, including treatment review and coordination, survivorship, genetic consultations, high-risk clinics, advanced care planning
