Job Description:

Job Summary: The Recreational Therapist is responsible for the provision of activities groups to adult patients. The Recreational Therapist completes assessments, develops treatment goals, develops and provides Recreational Therapist services, and functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

1. Develops, organizes and provides group recreation/activity services to adult patients. Activity groups may include psycho-educational groups and living skills groups.
2. Provides individual recreation therapy, as ordered by the patients' physician.
3. Participates in treatment planning for assigned patients; this includes assessments, documentation of services on patients', treatment plans and active participation in treatment team meetings.
4. Designs and facilitates recreational activities that promote cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of patients, adapting programs to meet individual needs and abilities.
5. Charts on each assigned patient per operating procedure. May maintain other records, as assigned.
6. Monitors and documents patient progress, evaluates outcomes of recreational therapy interventions, and recommends adjustments to activities to improve engagement and therapeutic benefit.
7. Maintains clinical competence for adult and geriatric recreation services. Exhibits professional growth and development.
8. Works closely with nurses, social workers, behavioral health technicians, providers, and other team members to integrate recreational therapy into comprehensive patient care plans.
9. Participates in Adjunctive Therapy Performance Improvement and Department or Hospital Committees, as assigned.
10. Maintains recreation/activity therapy supplies and equipment and orders supplies and equipment in accordance with budget.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in a human services field (i.e. recreational therapy, music therapy or art therapy), Science, Occupational Therapy, or related field of study from an accredited college or University.
• 2 plus years of experience performing recreation and/or activity therapy work in a health care or rehabilitation setting.
• Must have a current certification in one of the following:
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Certification from the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation/Activities Certification Inc. for the State of Texas
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
  • Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) Certification from the Certification Board for Music
  • Therapists Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) Certification from the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. licensure by Texas Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy Examiners
• Certification in Non-Aggressive Crisis Management; must be obtained while in orientation and maintained throughout employment.
• Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 plus years of experience in a health care or rehabilitation setting.
• 1 plus years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.
