JOB SUMMARY :


School Social Workers provide a continuum of programs, services and resources within the school setting to support the district educational goals and objectives to promote excellence and equity, every student, every classroom, every day. The School Social Worker will, in general:

1. Develop and maintain ongoing social work support and/or educational or social-emotional skill groups with students.
2. Consult with administrators, teachers, staff, and district office personnel on general and specific situations involving concerns about students.
3. Respond to school referrals under the direction of administrators or their designees.
4. Develop and maintain ongoing parent education groups; maintain a case load of "at-risk" students; conduct home visits/home studies.
5. Serve as a school liaison for community services/resources available to students and their families.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university, or will complete a bachelor degree program prior to the contract start date.
2. State of Utah Social Work License issued by DOPL as an LCSW.
3. Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Currently working as an SLCSD District Social Worker.
2. Valid Professional Utah Educators School Social Work license.
3. Bi-lingual Spanish speaker; reads, writes and understands spoken Spanish.
4. Have an ESL endorsement or SLCSD modified ESL endorsement or will obtain one within 4 years of hire.
5. Experience creating and delivering training in related areas.
6. Ability to locate, analyze and use school or student data.
7. Utilize evidence-based practices.
8. Demonstrate professional, collegial and appropriate interactions throughout the work environment, including interactions with juveniles and their family members.
9. Experience in working across diverse populations and cultures.
10. Experience in public educations settings with elementary, middle and senior high school students.
11. Demonstrated competencies in assessing and treating behavioral and affective disorders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Develop and implement appropriate social work student support plans to help students develop appropriate social and academic functioning.
2. Provide counseling services and interventions with individuals and small groups.
3. Prevention services: Implements Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies in school-wide/classroom/small group settings.
4. Identify behavioral needs of students through assessment, intervention, and planning.
5. Assists in crisis intervention and conflict resolution for students, staff, and families; utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
6. Facilitates a link between home, school, and community resources.
7. Conduct home visits and provide case management to support families and facilitate parent and school collaboration.
8. Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice and/or facilitates decisions regarding student needs.
9. Provides academic and behavioral interventions in a collaborative setting.
10. Develop and deliver staff training to support equal access for all students.
11. Uses evidence-based research data to support the development or improvement of existing programs and utilization of resources.
12. Build positive understanding of cultural diversity while establishing inclusive relationships to students, families, staff, and members of the community.
13. Give voice to the needs of underrepresented populations.
14. Continually utilize time management skills, documentation and communication skills
15. Maintain Professional NASW Code of Ethics
16. Knowledgeable about multi-tiered system of support (MTSS); Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS); Special Education (IDEA) and 504
17. Implements processes, programs, and procedures in the School Social Worker role.
18. Knowledgeable about human behavior, psychological research, assessments, methods and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
19. Compose and produce reports, documents, and related materials.
20. Speak and write clearly, concisely, and effectively in English; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally or in writing.
21. Identify visual or aural information, such as facial expressions, body language, physical surroundings, noises, etc... to accurately identify potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Risks found in the typical work environment which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.
2. Driving to work locations.
3. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work: however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, etc..
