Lead Industrial Controls & Robotics Engineer

A day in this role

You start by reviewing a new concept—pairing coordinated robot moves with a servo-driven station. By mid‑morning, you’re iterating PLC logic and HMI screens, validating safety, and running a quick simulation to prove out cycle time. After lunch, you sync with Mechanical, Electrical, Build, and Project Management to lock interfaces before machines hit the floor. You wrap the day mentoring a teammate on code structure and planning a customer runoff strategy that will make startup a breeze.

What you’ll own

• Full lifecycle delivery of custom automation—from concept and design through machine build, runoff, installation, and customer startup.
• Programming and commissioning of PLCs, HMIs, industrial robots, and supporting simulation tools to achieve robust, high‑performance systems.
• Systems integration in tight collaboration with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, Build, and Project Management to ensure seamless operation.
• Advanced troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis, implementing durable fixes and long‑term improvements.
• Mentorship of fellow controls engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and promotion of best practices and standards.
• Direct engagement with customers and vendors to clarify requirements, select components, and deliver solutions that exceed expectations.
• Continuous refinement of programming standards, engineering processes, and adoption of new automation technologies—helping shape the future of our controls team.

What you bring

• 5+ years in controls/automation with multiple projects delivered end‑to‑end.
• Deep experience programming PLCs, HMIs, and industrial robots.
• Working knowledge of motion control, machine safety, electrical schematics, and system integration.
• Hands‑on experience supporting systems from concept through commissioning and customer startup.
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex automation issues.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross‑discipline teamwork and customer interaction.
• A passion for mentoring and building a collaborative engineering culture.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10%–20%.

Preferred

• Robot simulation and offline programming experience.
• Familiarity with FactoryTalk View, Ignition, or similar HMI platforms.
• Background with servo systems, VFDs, vision systems, and machine safety.
• History of mentoring junior engineers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls, or a related field.
